Safe & Controlled Tree Removal Across Surrey

Removing a tree from a residential garden isn't always as simple as cutting through the trunk and allowing the whole tree to fall.

Many of the trees we work on are surrounded by houses, fencing, sheds, conservatories, patios and neighbouring gardens.

Where there isn't sufficient clear space to fell a tree in one piece, it can be dismantled progressively from the canopy down.

Branches are removed first, followed by larger limbs and sections of the main stem. Where required, pieces can be lowered under control rather than allowed to fall freely.

This allows tree removal to be planned around the individual property rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Why Remove a Tree?

Common Reasons Customers Need Tree Removal

There are many reasons why removing a tree may become the most practical option for a property.

Too Large for the Garden

A tree may simply have outgrown the available space and become increasingly difficult to manage.

Property Clearance

Trees growing close to houses, garages, sheds or other structures may need removing where additional clearance is required.

Garden Redesign

Removal may be required before landscaping, new fencing, patios, extensions or other outdoor improvements can begin.

Storm Damage

Severe damage can sometimes leave removal as the practical option where retaining the tree is no longer appropriate.

Problematic Position

A mature tree may be unsuitable for its location because of its size, spread or proximity to surrounding property.

Customer Preference

Sometimes customers simply want to reclaim an area of their garden or prepare the space for something completely different.

Restricted Access

Controlled Tree Dismantling in Confined Gardens

Large trees in residential gardens often cannot be felled from ground level because there simply isn't enough clear space around them.

A tree may sit between neighbouring gardens with fencing beneath it, a shed on one side and a house or conservatory on the other.

In these situations, controlled dismantling allows the tree to be taken down progressively.

The climber works through the canopy removing smaller branches before moving onto heavier limbs and sections of the stem.

Where an area underneath needs protecting, ropes can be used to lower sections into an appropriate working area.

This type of work forms an important part of our wider tree surgery services across Surrey .

Difficult Access

What If the Tree Is in a Back Garden?

Restricted access is extremely common with domestic tree removal.

A large tree may be growing at the rear of a property while the only route between the front and back garden is a narrow side passage.

That affects both the equipment that can reach the tree and how branches, timber and other material are removed from the garden.

Where necessary, larger timber can be cut into smaller manageable sections and material moved through the available access progressively.

Narrow side passages
Terraced properties
Fences beneath the canopy
Neighbouring gardens
Sheds and outbuildings
Patios and planted areas
Limited access doesn't automatically prevent tree removal.
It simply means the method of dismantling, processing and removing the material needs to be planned around the site.

Our Tree Removal Process

Every site is different, but most tree removal projects follow the same general process.

1

Site Assessment

We assess the tree, access, surrounding buildings, boundaries and available working space.

2

Plan the Removal

We determine whether the tree can be felled or needs to be dismantled progressively.

3

Remove the Tree

Branches, limbs and stem sections are removed using a method appropriate for the individual site.

4

Clear the Area

Tree material is processed and the working area cleared once the removal has been completed.

After the Tree Comes Down

Tree Stump Grinding & Removal

Once a tree has been removed, the stump normally remains in the ground unless additional work is carried out.

Whether the stump needs removing depends largely on what you intend to do with the area afterwards.

If the space is going to be landscaped, turfed, planted or used for another project, stump grinding can remove the bulk of the stump below ground level.

A specialist stump grinder works progressively through the remaining timber rather than requiring the complete root system to be excavated.

Stump grinding can be included as part of a new tree removal project or arranged for an older stump that has been left in the garden.

Before Removing the Tree

Could Tree Pruning Be a Better Option?

Not every large or overgrown tree needs to be removed.

If the customer wants to retain the tree and its position remains suitable, careful pruning or crown reduction may provide the clearance they need.

For example, selected branches may be shortened where they are growing towards a building or over a neighbouring garden.

Crown reduction can also reduce the overall height and spread of an established tree while retaining it as part of the garden.

Our dedicated tree cutting and pruning service explains these options in more detail.

Storm & Tree Damage

Emergency Tree Removal

Tree removal isn't always planned.

Strong winds can cause major limbs to fail, trees to partially uproot or an entire tree to fall.

Where damage has occurred, the first priority is understanding which parts of the tree remain supported and whether anything underneath is at risk.

In some situations only the damaged section needs removing. In others, complete removal may be required.

Complete Outdoor Projects

Tree Removal Before Landscaping & Groundworks

Tree removal is often the first stage of a much larger garden project.

A customer may need an unwanted tree cleared before installing fencing, levelling a garden, preparing a patio area or carrying out other landscaping work.

Because Apps Outdoor Services provide more than tree surgery, we can also help with garden clearance , groundworks and operated mini digger hire .

This can make it easier where several stages of outdoor preparation are required rather than arranging different contractors for each part of the project.

Homes & Commercial Sites

Domestic & Commercial Tree Removal

Apps Outdoor Services provide tree removal for homeowners, landlords, businesses and commercial sites throughout Surrey and nearby parts of Sussex.

Residential work can range from removing a single unwanted garden tree to dismantling a mature tree in a restricted rear garden.

Commercial projects may involve several trees, clearance around access routes or removal as part of wider site preparation.

Whatever the size of the project, access and surrounding property are considered before the removal method is agreed.
