From Initial Inspection to Final Clearance
Before starting a tree job we always look at more than the tree itself. Access, boundaries, buildings, sheds, fences and the route for removing timber can completely change how a project needs to be completed.
We Inspected the Site Before Unloading
When we arrived in Crawley, the first thing we did was walk through the garden with the homeowner. We looked at the condition and position of the tree, where the main branches were carrying weight and what was underneath the canopy.
We also checked the neighbouring boundary, nearby fencing and the route from the rear garden back to the front of the property.
The access was tighter than it initially appeared. There wasn't enough room to bring larger machinery straight into the rear garden, so we knew from the outset that much of the timber would have to be cut into smaller sections and moved manually.

The Tree Was Dismantled From the Top Down
Due to the limited room around the tree, felling it in one piece wasn't an option. One member of the team climbed the tree and began removing the outer branches before working progressively back towards the main stem.
Larger sections were controlled using ropes rather than simply being allowed to drop. This meant we could guide each section into the safest area of the garden and avoid unnecessary impact around the fence line.
Controlled dismantling is a common part of tree removal in built-up areas such as Crawley, where gardens can sit close together and there's rarely enough space to fell a mature tree conventionally.
Branches and Timber Had to Be Removed by Hand
Restricted access was the part of the job that required the most planning. Every branch had to come through the side of the property, so we cut larger sections down again before carrying them out.
Smaller branches were taken to the chipper while heavier timber was moved separately. Keeping those two waste streams organised meant we weren't constantly blocking the access route.
